Is it just us, or have you also found July to be both the fastest month & yet the longest month thus far in 2015? We have been busy, busy, busy spreading the digital word and talking one-on-one to so many organizations who are discovering what inbound marketing can offer! While this is exactly what we're trying to get more buzz about, people take time! Our time has been taken up on good problems to have--a lot of engagement and inquiry--two sure signs that the mission of the brand is making things happen.

The downside of buzz is that we're late on getting out our July Toolkit of the Month. Since it's the 29th, we're still technically in July, but c'mon, I'm an overachiever marketer and it is not how I planned it. You know how it is--you have a set plan in your mind, but it doesn't exactly execute to the T that you envisioned. Marketers struggle with this a lot and it's one of the reasons we get a rap for being excessively emotional, hot-headed, passionate or difficult to work with (I've even been called a perfectionist which shocked me because I never thought that about myself until I was blamed for having the malady and I realized that I am, indeed, a perfectionist).

The #1 thing that has helped me to deal with perfectionism is working in digital. How one deals with perfectionism within digital is also a sure sign of generational understanding of the digital divide. Here's an example to highlight this point: website launches. The closer you are to being a digital native, the less you sweat launching a new website, landing page, or post. Why? Because you fully embrace and accept that things in digital can be quickly changed and can always be improved. Even if you send an email that has a mistake, it's now quite common to send another email with a big "oops!" within it to explain your mistake in a transparent fashion. The farther away you are from being a digital native, the more you think in terms of print. Once it goes to the printer, it's permanent forever and forever. 

Digital is more forgiving. It allows you to flex and be nimble. It's inherent change-oriented nature means that risk is built in and there's an implicit understanding that even though it's computer-generated, it's generated by real humans. It's strange, but true to think that through using digital channels, we actually finally have the latitude to show our personality & very real human moments.

There's no guarantees in digital and the information is always changing. This has to be a premise that is understood and accepted. The information we're giving in this month's toolkit has and will change. We have to get out of finger pointing and accusatory, black-and-white thinking because that's not the vibe of digital. As a matter of fact, if you struggle with understanding Millennials then I hope this will help because this generation operates from a digital vibe where everything is far more gray and acceptance is the premise, not an outcome. 

With all that said, here's our July toolkit that focuses in on the basics of Facebook advertising. We still don't see organizations allocating spend to digital advertising and we need to get the ball rolling. Let's keep the conversation going on increasing advertising in digital and better understanding how to gain the attention of people we don't know. Let's keep increasing our understanding of the digital vibe and how we can connect with Millennial target markets and let's keep up with being transparent!
