With more than 1.5 million nonprofit organizations registered in the United States, it's often difficult for newcomers to gain recognition. And without recognition, these nonprofits will also struggle to attract volunteers and donations.  The good news is that even new nonprofits can engage with their target audience and build strong brand recognition through digital marketing.  Here are 4 digital marketing strategies you should be using.

Optimize Your Website

We all know the importance of having a website.  When someone searches for your nonprofit online, they'll see your website, and use it to interact with your organization.  However, it takes more than just a cookie-cutter website to succeed.  Here are some tips to optimize your nonprofit's website for a stronger digital presence:

  • Use a responsive web design so it functions properly on both desktop and mobile devices.
  • Optimize your website to load more quickly (e.g. use a Content Delivery Network, enable GZIP compression, enable browser caching, shrink images, etc.)
  • Publish high-quality content on a regular basis.
  • Upload images and videos to your website.

Google AdWords

Optimizing a website for higher search rankings takes time.  However, you can advertise your nonprofit on Google almost instantly using the company's AdWords platform.  Google AdWords is a pay-per-click (PPC) advertising platform where you create ads which are displayed for specific keywords, paying only when someone clicks your ad.  Google even offers free advertising credits to nonprofits, which is another reason why you should you use it.

Use Content Marketing To Tell Your Story

Storytelling is an essential component in a successful digital marketing strategy for nonprofits.  Researchers from Georgetown University's Center for Social Impact Communication recently surveyed 81 nonprofits in the Washington, DC area, asking them a variety of questions about storytelling. When asked if storytelling as an important part of their organization's communication, 96% said yes.

Use Social Media To Share Your Story

Using storytelling in conjunction with social media is a highly effective way to promote your nonprofit.  Your organization can have amazing stories and the most compelling reasons to join, but you need to use social platforms in order to get the word out.

Now that you have some basic digital marketing strategies, learn how marketing automation can enable your marketing team to have highly successful marketing campaigns.
